Tik Tok on the clock...

As the weekend draws to a close and a new week is starting I have put together a list of things that need to be done as steps to completing the final project.

First, now that I have developed a topic, I plan to start finding information to the questions I want to answer. What is green building? Where did it start? How is the word of it getting around (Communication)? What are the benefits? I hope that as I am researching other important questions to answer will pop up.

Second, rather than relying of just online data sources, I plan to go the library Thursday afternoon to check out a minimum three books on green building. There is always a plethora of online sources but there is always really good information that can be found in books as well.

Finally, as I begin to gather information, I plan to write a rough sketch outline of the paper. I want to have a rough idea of where questions will be answered, in what order, and how long the explanations will go. This will allow me to see gaps and where more information or sources need to be drawn in support. I would like to have this rough sketch at the latest by Sunday.

Green Building is a great topic/idea for this project! What is green building exactly? I know that is one of the questions you are going to be answering through your research and I think that is a great place to start. Are you going to be taking a little bit of an advocacy approach to this at all? I think it would be really beneficial to make our community more aware of what green building actually is. I think the people tend to assume what it means. Also making people more aware of what benefits there are to green building and maybe even how easy it can be. I think that the hardest part of getting people to respond to energy conserving ways of living is that people tend to think that it is inconvenient. So, overall maybe bringing the community into your project would be a good direction. Hope it helps! And it’s a great plan, I’m excited to see the end product.

Green Building...
You could go just about anywhere with this one. Its a huge concept these days.

I defining green building is great start. One could write a thesis on what it means to be sustainable (and many have) and sustainability is the driving idea behind "green" building. Find several definitions, not from webster.com or wikipedia but from a few published papers about the concept. Its vastly complex and a broad/deep understanding will set a prime foundation for your project.

From Kripa's comment, I agree that communicating to the public what it takes to build green is important (we may get close to achieving green building but it is essentially impossible). Discuss the changes in industry infrastructure that must take place before green building can get close to being economically viable. Like Kripa said, most people think of green building as "inconvenient" and from an economic and industrial standpoint, "inconvenient" is an understatement. What MUST happen is a change in attitude and priority. Talk extensively about the GREAT benefits of green building and the fact that sustainable construction must be striven for.

Thanks guys sorry so late, all those ideas sound great! I for sure want to really break down the definition as much as possible because it is such a large topic. The community I agree is a big aspect and in my paper I would like to include the community and see how they can get involved. I have heard that green building is very expensive so I would like to look into that aspect as well to really see how accessible it is. So again great ideas! Thanks a bunch!
