I found this article in the Everett Herald on two glaciers that have almost completely melted in Glacier National Park in Montana. They have shrunk more then 55% since the 1960's and will continue as long as the planet keeps warming. This results in less water in streams and rivers, which has proven harmful to salmon runs and water levels. This is a list of the glaciers affected "...more than 90 percent of glaciers worldwide are in retreat, with major losses already seen across much of Alaska, the Alps, the Andes and numerous other ranges, according to researchers in the United States and Europe" (Herald). Glacier's are extremely important to the surrounding biomes and for the biodiversity of streams, rivers, lakes that are around glacier's. It's amazing how much we depend on glaciers and water runs.

For more information on glaciers you can refer to the link I posted under the link compost titled Glacial Notes or Warming Impact. Those two websites have substantial information on the effects of climate change. The Glacial Notes link is really helpful in understanding the huge effects of glaciers melting and their importance for the environment and for the socioeconomic impacts, here are a few to name:
“Regions that lose major parts of their glacier cover will experience alterations in hydrology…revegetation of terrain is slower at high altitudes…areas will be subject to erosion and decreased stability, heightening the need to protect buildings, roads, communication links, and other structures”.
Ways that you can help is to reduce your carbon footprint, keep in mind how important glaciers are and what all their uses are for. Remembering the importance of all the effects glaciers has on the environment. For some people looking at pictures can be shocking enough to see the differences from 50-100 years ago. This can get people to ignite the flame.
